FRIDAY NIGHT IN COLLINGWOOD

Backwoods Gallery and Fawn Gallery exhibition openings, Friday 17 January, 2014. Words and photos - J Forsyth

Friday night in Collingwood was less steamy in the weather department but shit HOT in the arts.

We popped into Backwoods Gallery to see The Existential Vacuum by Johnathan Guthmann which is running until Sunday 26 January, 2014.  A decent sized crowd braved the hot indoor temperature and chatted to Guthmann who was happy to make himself known.  Others retreated into the open air to feel the cool change and soak up the large wall mural.  A video of Guthmann painting said mural is on Backwoods website along with more info on the artist and opening times.

Around the corner on Johnston Street, Fawn Gallery opened a group exhibition In the night time.  Artists include Emma Hampton, Ben Sullivan, Nadia Touksati and more.  A beautifully curated show saw a nice sized crowd milling around on the footpath with the iconic Tote Hotel in the background.

For more info on this up-and-coming space check out www.fawngallery.com or pop in and see Blanka and Camille, the lovely ladies who run it.

In the night time is running until Thursday 30 January, 2014
