MIDSUMMA 2014

MIDSUMMA 2014. January 12 - February 2, 2014 Words - J Forsyth

MIDSUMMA is Victoria's premier gay and lesbian arts and culture festival which began in 1988. It's a celebration of queer culture, open to everyone who is not Cory Bernardi. So if your'e reading this ladies, thinking “But I like wang”, or gents; “I'm all about the snatch”, you are in luck because so do gay people, just in different order.

Instead of thinking this isn’t for me, take a look at the festival, and support the arts, queer or not! And if you have one of “those” friends (you know, non-gay marriage supporters like Cory Bernardi) take them along and break down the divide. Or don’t, and sack that friend all together, go to festival and make new and better ones.

Kicking off on January 12, MIDSUMMA opens with Carnival day in Alexander Gardens from 11am - 6pm. T DANCE is a free dance party from 6pm - 10pm featuring an amazing local lineup of dj's and live music.

Confetti starting at 8pm - late is the official MIDSUMMA dance party.  Headlined by Sydney electronic duo the Presets, this party is a must for those who prefer night to become day before you've stumbled home.

We at Melbourne Arts Club have put together a list of Performance art, visual art, spoken word and out of town events for you to check out if today is not your day to be out and proud.
