Bakehouse Studios, the famed Melbourne rehearsal spaces/institution, launched their first book THE BAKEHOUSE PROJECT celebrating the visual artists that have transformed the space.
After a tribute to the late Lou Reed that was pasted up on the Hoddle St exterior touched the hearts of Melbourne, Bakehouse owners Helen Marcou & Quincy McLean were inspired to make the wall a permanent exhibition space. The couples' artist friends (Mick Turner, Patricia Piccinini, Julia deVille and the Hotham Street Ladies amongst others) were then asked to re-imagine the interiors of the rehearsal rooms with their own unique visions.
A 300 strong crowd of artists, musicians and bon vivants braved the Melbourne chill to hear Patricia Piccinini launch the book and enjoy a special one-off performance by SOS (the band without a song). DJs Gareth Liddiard and Dan Kelly kept the party going.
THE BAKEHOUSE PROJECT is out now through Black Inc. and is available to buy from the Bakehouse website.
