Who: New Model Beauty Queen - Dale and Sharmaine Cornell
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Melbourne fashion label New Model Beauty Queen, designers Dale and Sharmaine Cornell launched their latest fashion retail and small scale manufacturing space for emerging designers and local labels, aptly named The Cause.
The unveiling of The Cause on Monday night coincided with the start of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and provided a much needed stage during this time for labels that would otherwise be overlooked. The night featured an interactive runway parade to showcase collections from New Model Beauty Queen, The Cause, Designed in Brunswick, Coco and Max and Straker. Models walked to music by local band Dear Plastic and guests drank Killer Spocket beer whilst browsing the racks from a select group of in-house labels.
Dale and Sharmaine have a long standing commitment to local manufacturing, sustainable philosophies and ethical practices, their labels New Model Beauty Queen and The Cause are two of a very select group of brands accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA). Both Dale and Sharmaine feel that the recent arrival of global fast fashion chains has changed the industry in Melbourne and put increasing pressure on emerging designers. Now more than ever there is a real need for local manufacturing and retail support for young designers.
Located in the Causeway House Basement at 306 Little Collins Street, The Cause houses 14 industrial sewing machines, sampling production, pattern drafting tables, cutting zone and separate retail space that socks in-house labels. Dale and Sharmaine can assist designers with everything from design consultancy, pattern making and grading to sampling and full scale production.
