Words and photos - J Forsyth
WHAT: True North Arts Festival
WHERE: Compass Club Festival Hub, Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre. The festival is being held across some funky ass northern venues around Preston, Thornbury and Reservoir.
WHEN: Opening 6pm 17 April, festival running from 17-19 April.
WHO: The opening of the festival saw the Reservoir Dogs perform, people make speeches and the Preston Photography Club exhibition opened. I met Arthur from the club, I know his name because he was wearing a name tag. When I took his photo he gave me very helpful tips on reflections.
Today brings things. At the festival hub you will find the super students of VCA performing such wonders as 'I still call Australia homo' today at 3pm and 7pm. Nebula, Arts Access Victoria’s fully accessible mobile art space arrives at the hub. Also at the hub, Wild about Melbourne market runs from 11am - 4pm. Map your world zine workshop 11am - 3pm today and tomorrow. Oh and guess what? Melbourne Arts Club gallery and studio are open today 11am - 4pm. Ahhh Space is open at Merri Creek studios 10am - 4pm.
WHY: Sometimes community arts gets a bad wrap and so does the north north, but True North is showing you something different. Melbourne Arts Club's gallery is now part of this community and we want to give back by showing you some other cool shit around.
