WHO AND WHY: "What we wear will dictate what the future will look like. How we live will dictate what we wear."
We asked Curator Miriam Arbus "We Wear Future brings together over 25 trend-forecasting design based artists whose innovative work exists in the space where art, design, textiles, technology, future and fashion meet. The idea of future will be articulated and explored in many variants, with each artist's individual take on their own creative processes, and what the future looks like. A supported VAMFF Cultural Program project event, We Wear Future, features a selected group of innovative artists and designers, each utilising the exhibition as an opportunity to preview brand new designs, new collections, and new creations."
"From Cadia Belante's Morph Jackpacks made from second hand sleeping bags, to Meg Kolac's expressive fashion illustrations, Manna Ly's delicate textile art, and MIMI-ZIKKI's internet aesthetic meets Australiana line of clothing and swimwear; localised, sustainable and collaborative approaches to fashion design and visual aesthetic become central tenets of what We Wear Future identifies as what our future will look like. This exhibition will manifest as a fashion show, an experiment and an arts party with the intention of exploring and initiating discussion surrounding the interdependent concepts of sustainability, collaborative action, fashion and future."
"We're doing things a little differently this time - with drinks, food, moving runway shows, experiencing the work and a chance to meet all of the designers and artists. We are collaborating with Amber Mic Productions, who are bringing a line-up of 4 talented DJ/musicians who will keep the party happening."
